NaNoWriMo: Day One

Last week I was supposed to be working on my outline so that I could just jump in with the writing today. Instead, I spent the week revising another manuscript. That’s probably a good thing. I won’t be thinking about the other project while I’m trying to work on this new one. But here I am Day One of Nano, preparing to…wing it. Which I guess kind of makes the “preparing” part a joke.

Of course, NaNo was kind of founded on the concept of winging it, so that might work in my favor. Plus, last time I wrote an outline for a book, I never finished writing the book. I decided on page 50 that the story sucked. Ironic, isn’t it?

My goal for each day is 1667 words, but the kids are home from school today. I’m not sure how much writing will get done since Crazy 8s and popcorn seem to take priority on days like this. But I’m excited to work on this new project. I’ll keep you updated on my progress. Hopefully, that will keep me motivated to actually plow through to the end this time.

If you’d like a chance to win Something Old or Something New, don’t delay. Contest ends Tuesday at midnight PST. Go to this post to enter.

  1. Good luck with Nano. Winging it is always good, it's only day 1 and I've already thrown the plot outline out the window. I'm sure you'll reach your goal.

  2. One of my kids is home today, too. I'm going to aim for 1000 words. Not that I'm officially doing NaNo. 😀

Good luck, Sherrie. I just can't wing it. I'd be deleting the ms by the end of the month if I tried.

  3. Good luck! I highly recommend winging it for NaNo. It frees you up from trying to write something good.

I'm not in a place to be writing something new, so I'm doing the one thing that I hate but it works really well for me – scheduling my time. NaNoScheMo.

  4. Good luck! Winging it has sent me off in lots of wrong directions, but on the bright side, things I never would have thought of in an outline come out. Wing it, eat popcorn and enjoy.

  5. That's sort of what happened to me, except instead of another manuscript, I was busy working on my Halloween costume since I procrastinated! So now I'm more or less on the wing too. Eep!

Good luck! (Oh and my word count as of right now = zero. Haha.)

  6. My kids are home today as well …so… no substantial writing. Alas.

BUT, I'll be back pounding the edits tomorrow.

And NaNo is kind of free-wheeling which I like about it – my brain can't ever decide if it's really a pantser or plotter anyway.
